Test your vocabulary

There are several platforms, where you can enter your own vocabulary list and then use the program to quiz yourself. Such platforms are:

Please be aware that you need to register in order to use the tools. The basic function (entering your own vocabulary list and quiz yourself) is free of charge, some platforms offer more features with a subscription. There are also public vocabulary lists, that you can already use to train your vocabulary (e.g. https://app.memrise.com/course/911336/cie-igcse-german-core-vocabulary/ ).

Learn German YouTube

On this channel you can find hundreds of videos on different topics and on the levels A1 to C1. The playlist provides you with several videos on the different topics including prepositions, themed vocabulary, adjectives and verbs. This channel is helpful if you need extra explanations, want to deepen your understanding of a specific topic or would like to find specific vocabulary.

Lingolia

On Lingolia you can find four sections to choose from: Numbers, Dates Time; Easily confused words; idioms and themed vocabulary. Upon clicking on one of these topics, you will find further in depth topics you can choose from . You will find explanations with examples and/or different types of tasks. This is an excellent way to deepen your understanding of difficult vocabulary and vocabulary usage. You can also pay to get acess to a premium version of Lingolia with even more exercises.

Alumniportal

Alumniportal provides you with gap filling exercises on levels A2 to B2. Upon clicking on a level, you will find different topics such as work, environment and science. Each topic provides you with a list of related words that you can then use along with other words to fill in the gaps of a text below the vocabulary list. This is a great way of learning new words and memorizing them by usage.

German Idioms

This website presents you with a rich overview over German idioms, which are important to know when participating in conversations or reading texts, particularly in a rather colloquial and informal context.

Berlitz

On Berlitz you can find a long list of many different adjectives. The website begins with a general explanation and examples of adjectives and adjective usage. It then provides several themed tables with German adjectives, their phonetic transcript, and the English translation. The topics include ‘rating something’, ‘describing emotions’ and ‘beautiful adjectives’. This website is useful if you want to write a text or to broaden your general knowledge of adjectives.
