Lots of worksheets, free downloads BUT only for first 30 days (then either pay or create new account). Has many topics, including cultural aspects like greetings, flashcards and age-appropriate sheet design. PowerPoints are downloadable.

Zeit für Deutsch

Provides many lesson plans, overviews and ideas what could be added as extras, includes many exercises and games. It has also ideas for assessment. The many PowerPoints are downloadable.

Goethe-Institut: Online Game

Link to an online game which is monolingual (German). It has writing tasks and listening tasks and covers the first German words to describe the surroundings. There is an option to play with other players/friends as well from across the globe.

Goethe-Institut: General material

Free materials from A1 to C2, the link leads to a special task for level A1. There are lots of materials, films, worksheets/working material. The preview before downloading shows which skills (e.g. listening, reading, speaking) are trained in the material.

Goethe-Institut: The Language Musician (Game)

The computer game “The Language Musician” was developed by ten European partners, led by the Goethe-Institut London, for schools and teachers, in order to test the language progress of pupils – through gaming, fun, adventure and magic! English, German, French, Italian and Spanish as a foreign language can be tested. The instructions, explanations and storyline are available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Teachers can change the language being tested and the instruction language for every session. ​

The game has been created for pupils aged between 8 and 12 years. The storyline of the game centres on a young student magician striving to liberate his animal friends from the evil magician Winivil’s curse, which has transformed all animals into doorknockers. The pupils create their own magician-avatar before starting to play and will dive into a magic world of fun, excitement and full of surprises. The game needs a teacher to be able to play it.

German games is a free online resource for beginners learning German and offers a complete set of German tutorials, practise German games and quick German tests for over 100 German topics, all free (and starting at pre-Kindergarten).

Each of the 100+ lessons consists of an introduction to the topic language and 3 lesson activities – a yes/no activity, an either/or activity and a multiple-choice activity. During the introduction to the topic, players repeat the audio after they hear it and write down the texts to help their memory absorb both the sound and the look of the language. The games are graded from easy to difficult.

The website is created for many languages. The focus is mainly on developing vocabulary. A collection of flashcards, picture dictionaries, simple matching games and spelling quizzes is ideal for beginners and intermediate learners of German. Though easy to use for small kids, most of the content is suitable only for school-age children as they must be able to read the words.

This learning package offers language development with fun, whether it’s about German as a second language or the development of the mother tongue. The funny characters and their adventures give children a playful approach to the German language, and teachers receive comprehensive teaching materials. In the ten-part programme series ‘Mumbro & Zinell’ with 15min videos. Mumbro and Zinell experience exciting adventures in the human world. Each programme is the starting point for working on very specific vocabulary and structures and offers concrete conversation starters. The most important words, phrases and grammar topics are learnt in four times nine exercises. Listening comprehension, reading and writing are trained.
